Wembley just came out on top in a tense game ant Hanwell to remain top of the Chess Valley league.
The game eventually got underway at 1.10pm after the home team had to 'break & enter' into their own bar to obtain the match balls and the game was reduced to 40 overs each due to the late start. Milin & Tanmay started proceedings and put on 42 for before Milin was stupmed for a patient (yes, patient!!) 28 off 37 balls. 'Springer' joined Tanmay and they took the score up to 79 before Springer tried to pull (and failed!) a long hop which came through at ankle height. Two more wickets fell quickly and after 21 overs we were 93-4. Ifti & Bod joined forces to put on a 96 run partnership in just 13 overs, thanks mainly to their fifth bowler (4 overs for 41) and some inept fielding before Bod was caught for a quickfire 58. The last six overs brought another 50 runs and Ifti passed his 50 before swinging and missing at a full toss. The innings ended on 239.
A comfortable victory was expected...until Mohsin started to bowl!! Four overs for 36 got Hanwell off to the perfect start and after 10 overs they had moved to 59-1. After an excellent spell from Ramesh at the other end, Ifti & Raj came together to try and stem the flow of runs, which they did as Hanwell only scored another 40 runs off the next ten overs to take them to 99-1 at the drinks break. 140 runs to win from 20 overs was the equation and Mo came into the attack. Ramesh was brought back for his final three overs and together Rambo & Mo bowled superbly to put us in a vey strong position. Rambo struck three times in his second spell to end with figures of 4-46. Mo had the opening batsman trapped leg before which was the final nail in the coffin as the run rate kept climbing. With the Hanwell batsman having to swing Mo picked up three more wickets to end up with 4-37 and the final Hanwell wicket fell with the score on 212, 27 runs short.
An excellent win which keeps us top of the league with one more game to play.
