Wembley Cricket Club 1st XI SUN v Abbots Langley on Sun 06 Aug 2006 at 1.30pm
Wembley Cricket Club Won 8 Wickets
Wembley’s fielders had an extended nap on Sunday afternoon as the first 10overs of the game went for a poultry 10 runs. The Abbots Langley openers clearly coming from the Geoffrey Boycott batting school. Iffy saved us from going into insomnia by removing one of the openers. J.O.F then came on in the 12th over to wake up the fielders and went for 9 in his one and only over. The Abbots Langley middle order comprised of farmers who ploughed their way through the mid wicket region to get 20s and 30s eventually got A.L to 179-8 off 45overs. Umzi & Nabil, both got plenty of turn and bounce from the pitch but a lack of support from their half a sleep fielders eluded either bowler from getting more wickets. Raj ‘the Indian pimp’ Yadav picked up 4 wickets with his tight off spin.
J.O.F gathered the lads for a team talk just before going off and said ‘ lads to put it kindly, that was very disappointing’. The Wembley opening batsmen took this on board and put on 141 for the first wicket. Owen being the first batsman to clear the new changing rooms at WCC, luckily he did not hit one of the roof tiles otherwise the build would have been delayed until June 2007!!! Raj came in with 2 wickets down and finished the game off in style with 2 enormous sixes into the new houses at the Wasps end.
The game was over by the 26th over of the second innings hence a 5 hour Texas Hold’em tournament was held in the club house afterwards. J.O.F buying himself back in 3 times, however he was the eventual winner but only made £5 in total!!!!.
