Wembley Cricket Club 2nd XI SAT v Jesmond Jaguars on Sun 25 Jun 2006 at 1pm
Wembley Cricket Club Won 91 Runs
After defeating Brodesbury Casuals in the previous round, Jesmond Jaguars came to Vale Farm for the qurter final of the Federation Shield competition.
After losing the toss Wembley were inserted and quickly in some trouble at 18-2 in the third over. Hew Spring join Milin Gandhi at the crease and together they moved the score on to 91 in the 17th over before Hew was strangely given out caught behind after nothing more than a polite enquiry from the wicket keeper (and only the wicket keeper!). Milin compiled an excellent 54 from 68 balls when he decided to give catching practice. Raj Yadav, after a slow start (12 balls to get off the mark) then hit the accelerator button scoring 53 in 42 balls before offering a catch to deep cover. With only a handful of over remaining it was a case of hit out or get out and Mo Merali (14), Junayd Azar (18*) and Umair Malik (37) moved the score on to 263-8 after the 40 overs.
After a two hour tea (England 1 v Ecuador 0) play resumed and Jesmond Jaguars were quickly in trouble losing there first wicket in the opening over. An excellent opening spell of 4-14 after 6 overs from Junayd Azar had reduced the Jaguars to 64-4. Unfortunately Junyajd's opening partmer (Milin Gandhi) wasn't quite as good, going for 47 off just 5 overs. The spin quartet of Merali, Malik, Yadav & Joshi entered the attack and wickets fell steadily and despite an excellent 59 from Ward and a quickfire 31 from Burton-Brown, Jesmond Jaguars were eventually bowled out for 172 in 29.3 overs, not before Junayd came back into the attack to claim a well deserved five wicket haul.
Either Uxbridge or Southall await us in the semi final.
