Wembley Cricket Club 2nd XI SAT v Brentham on Sat 29 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Wembley Cricket Club Won 6 Wickets
Another game, another lost toss! Brentham elected to bat (which we would have done also) and thankfully they did. After just 8 overs Brentham were reeling at 9-3, which included the wicket of the Brentham opener who shouldered arms to one that knocked out his middle stump!! Raj Amunugama once again the early destroyer for the opposition batting line up with a first spell of 6-31 off 13 overs before injury forced Raj to take a break. Barry Webb & Shaka Zaman were tried in place of Raj to try and finish the innings off but both failed and it was left to Raj to come back (once the injury had mysteriously healed itself) to break up a final wicket partnership of 44 to end up with 7-43 from 18 overs. Ifti Mohammed toiled away up the hill for 20 overs and deserved more than his one wicket but as usual Ifti struggled to find the edge of the bat and had to suffer watching the batsmen continuously hang their bat outside off stump without knicking it.
With a low target of 126 set by Brentham and our best batsmen now on his travels for the rest of the season, a steady approach was called for by the captain...32 from the first three overs wasn't the steady approach the skipper had in mind but it did the job. The Brentham bowlers struggled as much as there batsmen did and the total was knocked off in just 22 overs with Rich Wilson top scoring with 31. Ifti Mohammed completed a fine all round performance with a quick fire 26 not out but the star of the show with his magnificent bowling effort was Raj Amunugama.
Edmonton away next week and with two consecutive victories and still just 14 points off second spot, promotion is still a real possibility.
