Southgate v Wembley Cricket Club 2nd XI SAT on Sat 08 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Wembley Cricket Club Lost 70 Runs
For the second time this season, we won the toss. Southgate were inserted and after 27 overs that decision looked to be the correct call as Southgate crumbled to 91-7 thanks to some good disciplined bowling from Ifti Mohammed (1-39), Mohsin Khan (2-26)and Huw Spring (4-67). However, we were unable t finish off the innings and from that point on Southgate took control and dominated the rest of the game. With a combination of poor bowling, dropped cathces and a bit of luck, Flook & Faruqi put on 76 for the 8th wicket to take the score on to 167 and then Flook & Bhatti put on 32 for the 9th wicket. The final wicket fell in the 50th over with the score on 199.
Although we let Southgate off the hook, we were still confident of reaching the target of 200 in 50 overs as the pitch wasn't really doing too much once the new ball was seen off. A solid start was required but unfortunately wickets fell steadily and with only Barry Webb (31) & Ifti Mohammed (35) offering any sort of resistence to the Southgate attack we were eventually bowled out for just 129 with 9 overs remaining.
Another disappointing batting display now sees us languishing in the relegation zone which makes next weeks match against Uxbridge, who are just one point ahead of us, a very important game for both teams so early in the season.
