After winning the toss and electing to bat Milin Gandhi & Tanmay Desai raced out of the blocks and after just 6 overs we had 48 on the board. They took us on to 103 before Milin was caught on the long on boundary for 58. From that point on wickets continued to fall at a steady rate with us looking to push the score on for an early declaration. We were eventually bowled out for 212 with useful contributions from Desai (45), Batty (35) & Amunugama (30).
The pitch was clearly going to favour our spinners but unlike last week, we decided to take the new ball in the hope that we could nick out a couple of early wickets. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Raj was excellent as usual, beating the outside edge at least three times an over but unfortunately ended his opening spell wicketless. Mohsin came back into the team having not playd for five weeks and struggled to find his usual accuracy. after nine overs Alok Patel was introduced into the attack and he struck immediately, bowling Smith for 11. That wicket brought Peter Cook to the crease and Nick Lankester came into the attack to provide us with spin from both ends. Before Cook had 10 on the board he provided us with three simple catches which we threw to the floor. Those dropped catches were to prove costly as he went on to score 98 before he was finally bowled by Alok. Cook was the fourth wicket to fall & Ickenham neded another 33 runs for victory, however those 33 runs proved to be a very stiff target for the Ickenham lower order as they crumbled to 212-9 when they finally scrambled over the winning line in the final over of the day.
After an excellent win against Barnes last week this defeat was extremely disappointing as we were clearly the better side but eight dropped catches and countless missfields cost us what should have been an easy win.
